AEROSMITH: Six Decades of Success

It's a little late in the game for a legendary band like Aerosmith to achieve new levels of awesome, but here we are. After over half a century in the rock game, the band finds itself in very rare air. As their EP with Yungblud, "One More Time," debuts at #9 on the Billboard Top 200 Album charts, it puts the band in elite company. They become only the second group, and fifth act overall, with a newly-charting top 10 in each of the last six decades (1970s through 2020s). How they did it:

  • 1976's "Rocks" peaked at #3
  • 1989's "Pump" hit #9
  • Three albums in the 90s reached the Top Ten: "Get a Grip"(#1); "Big Ones"(#6) and "Nine Lives"(#1)
  • Three albums in the 00s went Top Ten: "Just Push Play" (#2); "O, Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith Hits"(#2) and "Honkin’ On Bobo"(#5)
  • 2012's "Music From Another Dimension (#5)
  • 2025's "One More Time"(#9)

The only other group to achieve this feat are the Rolling Stones; Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen and James Taylor are the three solo acts that have also managed to score Top Ten albums in each decade since the 70s.

MOTLEY CRUE: It's Okay to Act Your Age!

Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue isn't a fan of musicians who don't act their age on stage. Sixx told an Indianapolis tv station, "Life changes, man. It's cool that it changes. The thing that I don't like is when I see artists that are still trying to act 25 and they're 65. I don't think that's cool for the fans.” Sixx, who will turn 67 on December 11th, feels that trying to act that young would be inauthentic. "Evolution is evolution. We all age, we all change, we have different interests, and Motley Crue seems to have ridden that wave pretty good, just letting it be real."

OZZY, ROGER WATERS: A Shirt in the Wall

The war of words between The Osbournes and Roger Waters has extended into the realm of merch. Ozzy Osbourne's online store is selling a limited-edition T-shirt through Wednesday morning that features "Ozzy Rules" spray-painted over Waters' name and a bunch of bricks that look similar to Waters' 1990 album The Wall - Live in Berlin. The back of the shirt shows a long-haired person with an Ozzy shirt urinating a rainbow stream -- like Dark Side of the Moon's cover -- on the cover of The Wall - Live in Berlin.

The spat between the Osbournes and Waters started in September when Waters appeared on The Independent Ink podcast. He said that Ozzy was "all over the TV for hundreds of years with his idiocy and nonsense" and that he couldn't care less about Black Sabbath or Ozzy's solo music. Jack Osbourne responded shortly afterwards on his Instagram: "Hey Roger Waters - [screw] you. How pathetic and out of touch you've become. The only way you seem to get attention these days is by vomiting out [crap] in the press. My father always thought you were a [wuss] - thanks for proving him right."

In other Ozzy news, the Osbourne family will accept the Lord Mayor's Award from his hometown of Birmingham, England on his behalf on Wednesday, which would have been Ozzy's birthday. The award "celebrates individuals and groups' outstanding achievement or exceptional service to the City and people of Birmingham." Also on Wednesday, Ozzy's paintings for the organization Save the Chimps will go on display at the Spectrum Miami art fair, which runs through Sunday.

PEARL JAM: Even (Ice) Flow

Pearl Jam have put their money behind something that will get a lot of use this winter -- a Zamboni machine. The "Pearl Jamboni" is being used this season by Two Harbors, Minnesota's Youth Hockey Association. The association was in search of a local business to sponsor its new Zamboni when its board members decided on a whim to reach out to Pearl Jam. Executive director Jesse Lundgren, a member of the band’s official fan club, wrote a note in the style of a concert poster asking if they would sponsor the Zamboni. Lundgren was surprised when he got an E-mail two weeks later from a band rep who was a hockey fan from Canada offering to take him up on the offer. Youth Hockey Association secretary Stephanie Aho wouldn't tell the

Minnesota Star-Tribune how much the band donated, but it was a "sizable" amount that will cover for the "Jamboni" the next three years. Pearl Jam designed its own art for the Jamboni, which is black with the band’s name on the side. A “PJ” in the school colors has hockey sticks crossed behind it. Aho said, “We were very shocked. This is something they’ve never done before. They give back to lots of different types of things. They’ve never done a Zamboni.”

PETA Asks Alice In Chains To Change Its Name

PETA now has Alice In Chains in their sights; not for anything the band did, but for what the organization wants them to do. People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is asking the band to change the name they've had since their inception in 1987. In a letter, the animal rights advocates wrote, "Dear Jerry, Sean, Mike, and William; Coming to you with a wonderfully strange request from us at PETA. Would Alice in Chains be willing to go by Betty in Chains across social media - for a month - to spotlight a dear elephant who literally spends her life in chains?" The backstory: Betty the elephant has been with the Carden Circus for almost her entire 56 year life. PETA explains that an elephant expert who recently examined Betty warns that she faces a fatal collapse if not immediately retired to a reputable sanctuary. The organization hopes that the high-profile PR move will raise awareness to the elephant's plight. No response yet from Alice In Chains.

Supreme Court Hears Case About Music Piracy That Could Have A Ripple Effect

The Supreme Court yesterday heard a case over music piracy that could have an impact on internet users. The court is weighing how much liability internet service providers have for piracy carried out over their networks. Cox Communications, the largest private broadband company in the country, argues that if the standard is too strict, internet access could be cut off for many Americans. Record companies accuse Cox of not taking reasonable steps to prevent illegal music distribution. A jury agreed in 2019 and fined Cox a billion dollars, a decision later reversed by an appeals court. Cox says that if the standard for responsibility is too high, it would have no choice but to disconnect homes, hospitals, hotels and more simply because of an accusation against one user at a specific IP address. The justices seemed to grapple with the extremes of any ruling they make and were concerned about innocent people losing internet access.
