Burberry Apologizes For Hoodie With Noose Around The Neck

Fashion brand Burberry is under fire after they debuted a hoodie with a noose around the collar during London Fashion Week. Burberry tried to pass off the noose as fitting to the marine theme that ran throughout the collection. However, after backlash from shoppers and models alike, they are now apologizing for the piece and have pulled it from the collection.

The statement from Burberry Chief Executive Officer, Marco Gobbetti reads,

"We are deeply sorry for the distress caused by one of the products that featured in our A/W 2019 runway collection. Though the design was inspired by the marine theme that ran throughout the collection, it was insensitive and we made a mistake.

The fashion shows' designed and Burberry Chief Creative Officer, Riccardo Tisci also added,

"I am so deeply sorry for the distress that has been caused as a result of one of the pieces in my show on Sunday. While the design was inspired by a nautical theme, I realize that it was insensitive. It was never my intention to upset anyone. It does not reflect my values nor Burberry's and we have removed it from the collection. I will make sure that this does not happen again,"

Burberry made the conscious effort to apologize after one of their own models who was actually wearing the piece in the show took to Instagram to express her disapproval in the noose. Model Liz Kennedy said she did try to bring it up with the designers prior to the show, but was immediately dismissed.
